    General Selenium Questions

Hello all, new to the forum, new to Selenium. Instead of asking specific questions, I was wondering if you guys knew of any other resources where I might be able to get further information about Selenium (specifically RC) and how to set up the proper environment and whatnot. So far, here is where I have been doing my research:

    http://www.jroller.com/selenium/#steps
    http://seleniumhq.org/docs/05_selenium_rc.html
    http://help.eclipse.org/galileo/index.jsp
    http://code.google.com/p/flash-selenium/
    http://blog.testsautomation.com/2009...d-eclipse-ide/

Anyway, any other sites would be appreciated.

    Re: General Selenium Questions

If you are only looking for Resources then the following thing may not be applicable for you.

But if you want to work on Selenium then I suppose you have got some good resources for the basic Start.
If you want to work on it I will suggest you to start using Selenium RC by implementing it for any open source applications available on the net. This will make you comfortable with Selenium. Also you will learn more about it when you implement it.

And while implementing or using it if you have any issues you can always post your issues in the forum.

    Re: General Selenium Questions

Ahh thanks Varun. I will do that. I just wanted to know as many online resources laid out so that I would not be asking redundant or already answered questions.

also.. the official selenium users discussion group is here:
    http://groups.google.com/group/selenium-users

it has a lot more traffic than the sqaforums group and will probably be the best resource if you need to ask specific questions.

Thanks for the offer Kishore. I will certainly take you up on that when I come across more issues. I was just having problems getting things setup with Selenium RC, JUnit and Eclipse, but I switched over to TestNG, and followed this blog http://epyramid.wordpress.com/2008/1...using-eclipse/ which helped a great deal. My biggest problem was that it has been a while since I wrote code let alone set up an environment, but now that the environment is set up and correctly, I can see begin generating test code.

    Re: General Selenium Questions

Just wanted to tell you TestNG is a different Testing Framework similar to Junit.
Since Selenium internally gets executed as Junit, you can implement TestNG over it.
The above blog you have mentioned is really good for setting up Eclipse with TestNG. But if you are new to selenium and you use TestNG to execute Selenium cases. You have to study both Selenium and TestNG.

If you like to start only with selenium in Eclipse. You can use the following link.

    Re: General Selenium Questions

    Hi Kishore,

I couldn't get you on what your comments were for the link I had provided. I suppose you missed something.

Anyways I was going through the Twist Selenium tool you were telling about. And I think it is similar to FitNesse tool. You can find about it at http://fitnesse.org.FitNesse is free where as Twist is a paid software.

For people who don't know about them I will give a brief idea. The advantages of these tools is that they can be used for people with less or no coding skills. In these tools you can type your business scenarios as Normal test and they will converted to functions.Twist is a paid software where as Twist is not. Also each have their advantages and disadvantages which you can get on the net.
Correct me if I am wrong.
