Ranorex is great, so easy to use and incorpoate into a framework.
Previously we had a Framework developed that was centric around QTP. HP is just hopeless at keeping up with new technologies and our company uses the latest and greatest to develop our applications in. So Time came to drop functionality for QTP.
In just under two weeks we have just about completed our new engine for Ranorex, and 100% completed all the GUI changes.
Basically, this framework is designed for non-technical users - Standard Manual testers, they select an object from a 'QTP' like Object Repository tree which is the imported Ranorex Map, they then build their test in an easy to use gui by selecting the methods available for that object type, and passing parameters as text. It builds a plain english representation of the step so any tester will understand the test.
We then created a DLL that uses the Ranorex DLL's, this DLL is passed the following from the project (framework) database: rxPath, Object Type, object Name, method or required property to check, and up to 6 params.
It checks the object exists, is enabled, then carries out either the get property or keyword method on the object and passes back the result as a boolean and msg.
So basically, what took 12 months to complete for QTP has taken a single person just on 2 weeks to build. And it is SOOOOOOO much simpler.
Re: Just awesome!
Thank you very much for sharing your experiences.
It's great to hear that you could successfully set up your test engine with Ranorex. Our goal is to offer the best object identification for web, mobile and desktop apps. Enabling testers as well as coders to build robust test automation projects and keep the maintenance effort as low as possible.
Re: Just awesome!
I am really looking forward to applying this to Mobile as well, our application is having a feature that allows remote users to interact with the applications via iOS and Android. I noticed in the latest news you spoke of iOS support and I can't wait to give it a go.
As I said, I was concerned it was going to be a 12 month conversion, but couldn't believe it was such an easy conversion.
RANOREX just gets better and better.
Thanks for the reply,
Re: Just awesome!
You've been very quiet, how is your framework going? I bet you are just about up and running by now. As I said, if you need a hand let me know.
being able to integrate this straight into VS just makes it so easy, it was so much easier to integrate than QTP. Because Ranorex and the RX path allows you to work out the type of object without knowing it up front, it is so easy just to pass the RX path around and have ranorex cast it is the right type of object.
Good luck with your project, I am sure that you will find it really easy, in fact after having it to play with for as long as you have I bet you are already having huge wins like I was with only 2 week part time.
Great feedback. I just started looking at the webinar and so far love what I see for my application!
I am looking into Ranorex as well. I am a heavy user of QTP so far I am liking Ranorex better than QTP I think We have like 500 scripts or so I am guess we need to recreate those in renorex. Can we implement renorex with QC? I am just evaluating for few days now. I know how to check exists or get value etc. Where do I put conditions? like if exists then do this else do this etc. Also do, while, for loops.
Ranorex have a good Blog and Forum
There is a Blog article on QC/HP intergration.
