COM vs. .NET applications support
I have to automate the testing for a COM application (this was inherited and we have to keep the backwards compatibilities) and I'm wondering how much support this tool have for COM vs. .NET applications.
If someone have experience in trying/using this tool with "old" COM applications I could use and his/her advice.
Re: COM vs. .NET applications support
Ranorex supports all kind of windows applications, also old Win32, MFC (based on the Microsoft Foundation Classes) and COM/ActiveX applications. The core of the Ranorex Automation Framework is a modern, object oriented library with a well documented API. You can write your own automation scripts based on this library in standard programming languages like C#, VB.NET, Managed C++ or IronPython.
Ranorex has a Plugin architecture for many technologies:
<ul type="square">[*]Win32 and Msaa Plugin for old windows applications[*]WinForms Plugin for .NET applications[*]Web Plugin for Web 2.0/AJAX apps[*]WPF Plugin[*]Flex Plugin for Adobe Flash/Flex apps[/list]
The Premium version contains the Library with all Plugins, the RanorexSpy Tool, Ranorex Recorder a Capture/Replay tool and Ranorex Studio a test development environment.
I would suggest to download the latest Ranorex version and analyze your application with RanorexSpy.
