Sampling w/o replacement
I need to select records randomly from a large file for input to a Web app but need to assured the same record is not selected more than once. This is known as sampling with out replacement.
Does FileGetRndRow select rows without replacement? Or will I need to use FileGetRow and manually track the row count?
Re: Sampling w/o replacement
Here is a reply to your question from one of our application engineers.
In webload...our clients work like this with a data/input file:
in order to truly run a test with the sampling without replacement methodology you can utilize the following two methods.
By default a webload client will not utilize the same line as another user if you
A. run the same number of clients as you have lines in your datafile
B. if you have more lines in your datafile than you have users running. The webload clients will proceed through the file, still keeping each line they use unique to the other users.
The only time you should ever see any clients using the same data from your file, is if you have more clients than you have lines in you datafile.
