Subhash - I don't remember which forum but we have several threads on Six Sigma here on the forum. Try searching here and see what you get.
Personally, I'm not involved with it. A couple of years ago I was contracting in a firm where they were sending every FTE to "yellow belt" training - but I don't know much more than what I've read here.
I have had some experience with Six Sigma. My understanding is that although individuals get their belts this is a company quality philosophy, and many companies such as GE have had incredible success in using this. It is based on process improvement using such processes as DMAIC (Define. Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control.
Certification usually consist of training and using the training successfully in a project being guided by a Black Belt or master Black Belt. True certification cannot be done outside of a company that is uses Six Sigma.
A book that I found very interesting and I would recommend is
Six Sigma Software Development by Christine . Taylor.
Also there are some discussions in the Quality Methodologies forum on this.
One of my former companies did some of it, but unless you get company-wide buy-in then you won't get much out of it. It's business as well as development process improvement, basically everything your company does. I think I put my experience with it down on my QA Forums blog.
My experience can be summed up with - 6 months after we started the whole initiative we would tell people in the break room that their coffee making was not 6 Sigma.
Lynne first can you tell me how my post moved i posted this in qa chitchat and when i looke there it was not there...when i searched on forum i saw this here..may i know who is doing this....does moderator have right to move posts like that...then i think there should be rule to inform the person who posted that so that he can follow up properly
I moved this as it is a discussion on a Quality Methodology. If you read my post I did inform you there. There used to be the ability to notify the thread originator during the move but this does not seem to be available any longer.
