Verification and Validation PAs in CMMI
In CMMI ML3 Process Areas (PA), Verification and Validation,
Almost all the Specific Practices are same(obviously the intention or interpretation varies), but in Validation PA , after performing validation, it is recommended to analyze the results of validation activities and identify issues, whereas in Verification PA, after performing verification, it is also recommended to identify corrective action. (refer or Go through SP 3.2 of Verification and SP 2.2 of Validation PAs)
Why the same(identification of corrective action) is not explicitly mentioned for Validation activities in the respective PA. Is it implicitly means that, or it is not required.
Re: Verification and Validation PAs in CMMI
maybe because you start from the premise that verification and validation are the same thing.
Verification is an inspection activity and there is a direct tie-in between inspection and taking corrective action.
Validation is a reflection activity, and while it is possible to conclude that corrective action is desirable, the focus is on a larger picture like in the case of a post-mortem, where you learn the lessons that you apply to a future project.
I would caution you that CMM offers guidelines, it does not set rules that you follow verbatim. A simple example: if you do a verification, must it be so that you will apply a corrective action? It is important that you think this through in all areas if you truly want to master CMM rather than to learn simple rules that you may recall on the test without actually understanding how you would apply those rules in real life (by all means, you need to know what to answer in the test).
