I am writing a thesis on companies that have implemented ISO 9003 quality system. I would like a real life explanation of exactly what is involved in becoming certified (with out the official jargon) and any benefits/draw backs your organisation has gained since certification
I want to make sure that you are aware that ISO9003 has been replaced by ISO9001:2000.
I was very peripherally involved in an ISO9003 activity about 6 years ago for the distribution side of a software manufacturer. From what I saw, the benefits were few, if any, but this was mainly because the Director was a very quality oriented individual and she put quality practices in place well before looking at 9003. Last I heard she hadn't bothered to go for accreditation because there was no commercial benefit in doing it.
As far as what you needed to do to implement, have a look at http://www.connect.ab.ca/~praxiom/9003.htm as it has very clear statements on what you need to do.
