1. ## Everyday Efficiency

So I was in making my lunch today and saw someone come in to use one of the microwaves. Now, he put in his lunch an hit the "Quick Minute" button 8 times. Now, if I were to press 8, 0, 0 then that would be 3 key presses opposed to 8. Granted, the tracking time from the 8 to zero might account for one more press of the Quick Minute button, but all the same, think about the time savings if you were to just use the 3-buttons.

Ok, so there are 52 weeks in a year, meaning 52*5 days or 260 working days a year. Now, if we factor in a 10% holiday/sick day factor then we are looking at 260-26 or 234 days per year that you are actually at work.

That is, let's say, equal to 234 seconds annually (assuming that 4 presses of the quick minute button, or the difference in time, would be a second). Multiply that over 45 years (assuming you work from 20-65). That comes out to like 10530 seconds over your lifetime or almost 3 HOURS!

Think about what you could have done with those additional 3 hours, if one you had pressed 8,0,0. I mean you could almost have enough time to do something stupid like quantify the time you're wasting

Anything else anyone can quantify here that would help us improve the efficiency of our everyday lives?

Yup. You'd be saving "5 key presses" worth of time each day.

In that time you could:
- sigh contentedly
- read one word of the Minimum Wage poster on the wall
- decide the topic of your next post on SQAForums

4. ## Re: Everyday Efficiency

My blood cools when I think of all the time that gets wasted in my company because people don't know how to use the hotkeys for cut/copy/paste.

5. ## Re: Everyday Efficiency

Hey, speaking of which, does anyone know a hotkey for New Folder?

I always seem to do this the long way, and then I end up creating like 3 or 4 anyway.

6. ## Re: Everyday Efficiency

ALT+F, W, ENTER

7. ## Re: Everyday Efficiency

Oh - wait - are you asking about hotkeys or keystrokes? To me, a hotkey only has a single step (even if it involves a modifier key). So CTRL+C is, indded a hotkey. But the keystroke equavalent I gave you isn't.

8. ## Re: Everyday Efficiency

Yeah, I was looking for the hotkey, if any. I don't know if there even is though.

The shortcuts are cool. I mean I know about them, it's just a matter of making myself do them every time

9. ## Re: Everyday Efficiency

I think my guys would know if there was one. As blind testers, they don't use a mouse.

Blind Testers!!!!! Seriously?

Wow, that's a speciality if I ever heard of one.
