They are starting what I think is a really cool program that I see really working out well for everyone involved:
They are going to have a system where if you're connected to their WiFi(I think?) and you like the song playing on their Starbucks station, you can click on a link on their wifi connection page and buy it right there and download it.
That's a great system. I hope that someday, TV commercials pick up on this. There's been a lot of TV commercials lately where I frankly wasn't interested in the product they were selling but I wanted to identify and purchase the music playing (Geico, for example).
There are a few logistical problems. I mean the technology is coming along, and might even be there (thinking of interactive TV). I think that this type of technology would be best utilized by the cable companies though (or sat. companies). I mean could you imagine seeing a vaccuum on TV and jsut pressing a Buy It button on your remote and BAM! It's at your door next week?
With the advent of digital cable, I think that probably one of the most probable innovations we are likely to see is intelligent advertising. I mean if you track whenever someone turns away from a particular commercial, what shows you are watching, etc., you can easily begin to build a crazy-detailed profile about the users in that house and advertisers would just salivate over it.
By the way, I just Patented and Trademarked this idea as of this second. I'm calling it IntelAd.
