What would be an appropriate way to quit the job? I am not talking about formalities like giving notice, etc., but about managing the relations with your former colleagues in the last few days so as not come out as a jerk.
Leaving copies of Soldier of Fortune magazine lying about the cube/office before giving notice is certainly one way of creating excitement.
Presumably there are some co-workers you associate with morethan others, breaks, lunches, etc., If you see it as a good thing to stay in touch, drop them an email from a non-work email addy before you leave. If they'd like to stay in contact they'll respond.
Not gloating over how you got out and they're stuck there is another way - along with not bragging over the new wage and benefits promised.
Translated - be professional. In another age, I'd have said act as a gentleman.
Get an account on Linkedin, ask you any co-workers that you want to keep in touch with to join (it's free) that way
you can keep in touh and when you join your new firm there may be people alredy in linkedin you can connect to.
Otherwise leave leaflets about gender changing or enhancement, those that you want to keep in touch will be so curious that they will, and you may get a few more people interested as well!
I once went out the door and sent a last email to the company. It read "So long and thanks for all the fish." It was a place that I wanted to burn the bridge with. The people who remained my friends knew it wasn't directed at them.
That was very early in my career, now I just keep my mouth zipped up and go out the door.
