On Tuesday I lost my HD at work. We have tried many different repair applications but it was dead. We replaced the control board mounted on the HD and it does spin up now. However it will not identify itself. I assume the boot info on the outer edge of the platter has been wiped. I found a place that can help for $3K! Can any suggest a less expensive route.
I know, I should have been backing it up regularily, but as many think, I thought that I was immune from such disasters. I had all letters, data, applications, and info for the past 8 years on it.

What a coincidence. My laptop hard drive died just yesterday. A drive recovery util that was ran recoved numerous copies of "desktop.ini", but nothing else. It new just what to recover that was useless to me.
So I'm on my secondary computer running 3 simultaenous remote desktop sessions. Ahh.
I will have to give that a try too! When my 1999 dell laptop died, I made a mad dash to CompuUSA (I didn't know where else to turn ) and they looked at my machine like it had fleas or something...they "don't work on machines that old". I was devastated. Yes, it may have been old but it was functional.
After that, I just gave up on it and bought another.
Thanks for the info!! I hope the trial works on my machine
