I get a lot of these from new analysts - often the first question they ask is what the difference is between a test case and a test script. Or the difference between QA and QC. Or the difference between various tools...etc., etc., etc.
I don't answer these much on the forums. I guess that while I have the patience to answer those questions when I'm actually mentoring a member of my team or teaching a class, typing it in 40,000 times to answer all of the like questions is a little like writing "I will not chew gum in class" a hundred times on a board. More of a punishment than an enjoyable exchange.
I think these are coming up because of all of the new entrants in our field. The questions are not unusual from new folks and while I don't have the patience (or time) to answer every question myself, I understand why they're asking and feel somewhat sympathetic when they're shut down prematurely. Then again, I took the time to answer a basic question in detail about a month ago and the ecstatic individual posted a thank you and said they got the job!
In the meantime, can someone tell me the difference between an oracle and an orifice? Both appear to spout things, and I couldn't find an answer using the search facility...
