I've been told that I'm going to Singapore Monday. Do any of you have any advice on where to go and what to see? maybe even a small ferry trip to a close destination. I've never been there and I'd hate to waste what little time I have there for the week wandering around aimlessly.
In general it's a good city. I dont remember any special monuments or architectures but you have GOT TO see the Singapore Zoo and their night safari. It's simply mind-blowing. Apart from that enjoy the KFCs and MacDonalds I guess. They will never leave you no matter where in the world you are.
You're the 3rd person that's mentioned the night safari, so I'll be sure to go. I was stuck in the middle of BFE in Israel for 2 months of work. The McDonald's 10 miles away was like an oasis. Of course, they ask you if you want cheese on your cheeseburger since by tradition you don't eat meat and cheese off the same plate or even at the same meal.
... well, I say stuck but I guess it was kinda enjoyable. I spent most of my free time driving around, going to clubs, raves and beaches.
I read the first half of your post about Israel and said to myself "RAVES!!!!! Bryan didn't go to the raves!" But I guess you did.
The clubbing scene is pretty decent in Singapore too. I didn't go clubbing much while I was there. If electronic trance and house is your thing then you might enjoy the nightlife in Singapore. I guess it's more of a place where you just look at the city and the people and marvel at how discipline and democracy can mix so well. In general it's not a place where you'd get bored or contemplate suicide. And chewing gum is banned.
My mistake Robert. I must have been in one of my Friday stupors.
What I really meant to say was how shocking it is to see people welcome and abide by the strict enforcement of rules in Singapore. The system really does seem to work for them. Apart from the inevitable oppostions, on the whole they seem to have found a balance.
