Why no one should use ONLY macs for years...
Okay... my sister has used nothing but Macs for years. Her husband has been converted at work... I sent my mother a laptop loaded with 98...
Why do they insist on being completely blind to one or the other?
(Keep in mind here that I WAS a Mac user, so I *have* used both)
Here's an email to-and-fro...
Will try to set this up so I can find it easily; I have to
say I am hating to learn this stupid PC; nothing feels intuitive and
everything seems so convoluted and hard to do... I am very frustrated right
now...can you tell? Have a great trip!
And I responded:
It seems convoluted and hard to do because you don't know how to do it.
Windows is actually much easier to use, IMHO, than the Mac OSs..
As far as easy access, just remember that you can create a 'Shortcut' on the
desktop for anything - When you do Start ->Programs -> Whatever, just keep
the mouse held down and drag over to the desktop; it will automatically
create a desktop shortcut, and you'll feel just like you have Mac icons. :-P
To which she whined:
I HAD a shortcut for it, and now it isn't there anymore...then I had that little bar that ran across the bottom of the screen where I would minimize things and then click on them at the bottom when I needed them, and somehow I inadvertently put that bar on the side of the screen, and can't figure out how to get it back to the bottom. And Kirk was alaseep, and I am 7 months pregnant, tired, and grumpy...and I'm sure that Windows is a WONDERFUL OS, but I feel irritated by the learning curve at a time in my life when I have no time... see what I mean? :-p Thanks for the help! I love you!
To which I finally couldn't stand it:
LOL... it's not my fault your pregnant. :-P
The little bar across the bottom of the screen is the "Task Bar", and you *should* be able to just 'drag' it back to the bottom. It takes a few tries sometimes, but it should go back down there if you pull a few times. As for the shortcut going away, ask Kirk tonight, because some people like 'clean' desktops, where they remove shortcuts from the desktop - I'm one of them. What version of Windows are you on? You can also add 'icon' shortcuts to the "Task Bar" for things you open a lot - and it even has a handy 'desktop' icon that closes minimizes everything and shows you the desktop again. Amazing technology, eh?
LMAO. Love ya!

Re: Why no one should use ONLY macs for years...
The switch over can be rough. I was working on a Mac the other night and had purchased a Xmas gift online. I wanted to erase the history so that my boyfriend (he has a G3) wouldn't know that I had been there. Do you think I could find it?!
^%#&%#$% Mac Explorer doesn't manage it's own history files. I could open the history, but I couldn't delete it. There's no 'right clicking' on a one-button mouse . After complaining for 1/2 an hour I finally found it on the menu bar thingy and deleted it.
The problem is that they've both (PC's vs. Mac's) got their own idiosyncrasies and nuances that just take time to adjust and get accustomed to.
