Recently I was reading that her "pristine, virginal" image was unlike the "real thing." I was a teenager when she recorded "Turn Over Darling," and it nearly made me ---- well, never mind. Suffice to say that my hormones raged. At NO time did I consider he to be untouchable and virginal.
Did anyone else see through the Hollywood image to the sexy lady she actually was?
I think it was all about image in those times (late 50's early 60's ???). I mean lucy couldn't even sleep in the same bed a ricky so how was little ricky born... I am a little younger but still think she was a hottie...
On the Dick van [stupid is as stupid does] show Rob and Laura slept in separate beds whenever they were shown in the room... Image was more important for stars then wasn't it since most were under contract to the studio?
Michael the automatic editing of the latter part of the actor's name is a hoot! Now why didn't it come out as "[stupid is as stupid does] van [stupid is as stupid does]?"
I have to correct my (perhaps wishful) oopsie - it was "MOVE Over Darling, not "TURN!" It was the theme tune from the movie of the same name, dating from 1963. I was 16 at the time. And you can imagine how the lyrics - http://www.lyricsdepot.com/doris-day...r-darling.html - affected a 16-year-old boy!
