Tink,

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.
Do you want to know how Excel works internally?
Are you looking for an Excel formula?
Are you trying to convert 6 hours, 30 minutes to something (and if so, what), or the other way around?

3. ## Re: Convert time to number format

Tink, do you mean this formula? =(A3-INT(A3))*24
It gives you the number of hours since 12:00 AM and converts a time like 7:05 AM to a decimal (7.083333).

It seems we are all guessing here so your input would be nice.

4. ## Re: Convert time to number format

No. Its not how only Excel converts

I need to know, how to convert time to number format.

E.g 55 hours will be 55 when converted to number
However, 1 hour 50 minutes is 1.8333, when converted to number.

I want to know by using which formula i will get these answers?? time[HH:MM]to number format and vice versa
manually.

Hours + (Minutes / 60) ?

Tink, that's what the formulas I posted do.

9. ## Re: Convert time to number format

Joe,

Your formula works in case of 1 hour 50 minutes.

But check for 6 hour 30 minutes. As per excel its 0.27 in number format
according to your formual its- 6.5 in number

So your question is "how does Excel store Time values, and then display them when formatted as a Number?

If so, then these might help:

(I wasn't trying to propose a solution. I was just trying to probe for what question you were actually asking.)
