Often management meetings refuse to address issues because they don't understand them and to cop out they say its a very granular issue. This either means they are work shy or stupid if you ask me. Often its a very technical issue that causes grief to a project.
Granularity is a useful concept in analysis. As in, "these requirements need to be more granular before we can develop test cases."
There is definitely a time and a place to declare a conversation too granular: in the early stages of a project when you're outlining use cases you might say that assigning data types to fields is too granular when all you're doing is scoping out the work.
