    More on text editors ...

I'm always on the lookout for a better text editor, use them every day. For the last few years I've been using ConTEXT and love it.

"You don't have to be a programmer to appreciate the joys of plain text, and there's no better way to wrangle your text files than a solid text editor. Plain text files are appealing because they're searchable, lightweight, portable, and truly platform agnostic; plain text just makes life easier."

    SciTE! SciTE! SciTE!

I use SciTE for all text editing, python/perl programming on both Windows and Linux. totally rocks.

lightweight.. no installer... syntax highlighting.. integrated console... FREE... OPEN SOURCE.

It is based on the Scitilla source code which is used in many other open source editors and IDE's.

I use SciTE as well, but also Crimson Editor.

Crimson has a few tools that are missing or easier to use than SciTE - mainly macro recording for bulk editing of data....

I tried Crimson a while back as well.. but alas.. it is only for Windows. SciTE works great on Linux also.

I still like TextPad...I tried ViM for awhile but was not as excited about it some of my co-workers.

Maybe I'll give SciTe a try.

Re: More on text editors ...

Well not free, but I got turned onto this one by one of our Java developers. I began to like it because I utilize multiple languages for my test scripts and its nice to have one editor that I can work with. Rather than use TextPad for one thing, Eclipse for another, Visual Studio...ad infinitum. The ability of it to find my Perl modules across multiple directories has already made me a believer.
