    I smell a rat

You may think I'm talking figuratively, but it aint so.

Its a real smelly rat, well, I think its a rat. Something crawled under my office floor boards, or into the dry lined walls about three weeks ago and died. Smell's been that bad that I haven't even wanted to think about it. The pest control people said there was nothing they could do, and my builder said lifting the floor boards to try and find it would be a nightmare. So I've waited, and thanks be to God, the smell has finally subsided.

Problem is, how to prevent it happening again. I've a couple of people working me in this office, and if it happens again I'm not sure it's reasonable to ask them to work in these conditions. So far, I've laid traps, put in an utrasonic rodent scarer, and bought an endoscope for looking under floor boards as precautionary measures. Three of the external walls office are not on my property, so I can't easily search for and block of entrances.

Anyone else had a similar experience, or can offer any advice on worthwhile precautions.

Rat poison. Warfarin is a wonderful thing.

We had the bad luck to have that happen in our house. Thge rodent croaked in the air handler of the air conditioning system. It smelled like rotten fish, oddly enough.

I think he just gets rid of live rodents, not dead ones.

What about the Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents? I'm sure they could do something about it.

Yeah, but Maurice's rodents weren't dead either. (Even though they didn't have Maurice's 9 lives!)

No, don't poison the rats, get a snake and let it do what comes naturally.
You're not paranoid if they really are out to get you.

    Re: I smell a rat

    Or a cat. :-)

We had a cat on our 2-acre farm growing up that was like the epitome of the feline hunter. Nothing was safe. She weighed probably no more than 10 pounds but she could take down a full grown groundhog. We frequently found rat, mouse, rabbit, and bird bits scattered around the property where she would have feasted and left what she could not finish.

Of course, she also left presents for us poor, useless humans who can't catch their own food. Rather interesting to wake up in the morning and find a dead rat on your doorstep with a cat standing there as if to say, "Well, go on....eat it!"
