I'm located where Interstate 8 and 15 come together.
The north fire, called Witch Fire, is north of Miramar Air Base, and you'll see the street Scripps Poway Pkwy and north of that. The Harris fire, the south one, is south of Route 94 and east of 805. This is south of the city.
The north fire will not affect me because the fire is heading west, not south. Actually the latest info is that the wind shifted and now is heading east. Unfortunately, 2 other fires have joined the Witch fire and so part of it is spreading north. The town of Fallbrook has lost over 500 homes and counting, including an entire trailer park.
The fire in the south, the Harris fire has caused so much damage and right now 2500 homes are in immediate danger.
If you would like to help, even for us locals, the best way is to donate directly to the Amer Red Cross here in San Diego. They will buy supplies and bring to Qualcomm STadium for distribution. Here's the website:
Personally, I am exhausted trying to emotionally deal with this. I am not in danger but I feel for my neighbors throughout the county. So many friends have been evacuated. Hardly anyone was at work today. Air quality is okay right now but it's expected to get worse. I'm getting a couple of shipments of masks FedExp to me by family and friends from back east because here, it's very difficult to find them.
These kinds of things remind us how lucky we are to have homes and are safe.
Going out of your comfort zone requires failure. True genius is measured by your recovery.
