It generated a good discussion about how the media/management seems to portray the problems being in testing. We came up with a list of other areas that could have been at fault besides testing. Not that we live in a blame culture of course!
Yep! Blame testing, sounds like SOP for RIM. Of course they did not mention the BS of the BA or the PM and that the CEO may have said JSI (just ship it) because they needed to be FTM (First to Market) because he needed to see some ROI or the P&L was not looking A-OK.
Which in turn lead to a CLM for the test manager who is now SOL and asking WTF. Geez I love this job!
That was the hidden joke of my reply. But, what RIM (and other companies) need to do is look at the real root cause of the problems. Sometimes looking in the mirror is the first, and best, place to start.
Hubris in management is the main culprit here. The ability to check the ego at the door is a rare thing in our industry.
