Does it make sense to pre-moderate all messages from a new member for the first month?

In this case:
Forums will become less polluted.
People will post more carefully and moderatorís job will become a little bit easier.

Re: The tough life of SQAForums moderator

I have more issues moderating "regulars" that don't mind insulting either the intelligence or background of others than I do with new people.

I don't want to pre-moderate all messages from a new member for the first month. The forums might become less polluted, but the lives of the moderators would become infinitely less pleasant.

For some different reasons to Linda pre-moderation would not work for me either.

But keep on thinking maybe we can find some sort of answer or improvement.

Three or four more trusted moderators.

But then again, you'd have to have volunteers.

That's never been a problem around here. I mean, co-opting moderators without their having volunteered first

Re: The tough life of SQAForums moderator

Pre moderation is tough on everyone. This forum has been pretty self-correcting.

Non-moderators are quick to slap an arrogant newbie with a "look it up" or "use the search" and a total non-response can be eloquent.

Re: The tough life of SQAForums moderator

Perhaps a queueing mechanism would be useful where posts are held until moderator releases or bounces them with reason for bounce attached???

The downside of course is without protective code the possibility exists for multiple submits when a poster realizes that the post is not immediately public. But heh?? Protective code?? Are we onto something?

Re: The tough life of SQAForums moderator

Posting here on the suggestion of Jake. I believe the following will make things easier to the mods job if people read the prefilled info.
----------------------------------------

the idea is to do this. When a member clicks a New Post button - 1. he already gets a prefilled Text Box in his New Post box. He will insert his answers inline or delete the prefilled text as the case maybe. 2. Or he will get the list of instructions above his text box

Please see the screen shot at this link
http://www.sqaforums.com/download.php?Number=347799

The thing to note is that the prefilled textbox will probably appear in ALL forums - ALL tools - so I have changed the text to be more 'generalised' than specific to LR.

Even though i am not an advanced PHP programmer - I can understand a fair bit of php code when I see it . I have done similar hacks to the open source PhpBB board to make a solution like the above possible. It should equally be possible to do it with the UBB boards as well (like this one). But its something that the site admins and mods like you have to work on it - provided they reach a consensus on the content of the text and that it should be included in all the boards and .
