    Vista anyone?

Anyone have any rants or raves about Vista yet? Or is everyone waiting for the 1st service pack before going public with their opinion. :-)

So far I've been quite pleasantly surprised with Vista. But I suppose I'll let the hackers give it a shot before showering too much praise.

On a related note, has anyone had a chance to review any Vista books yet? Any recommendations? I was looking to buy a handful for my team to start off with.

I think the bloat has it in the rant phase yet.

Actually, I've seen some data that suggests its bloat has taken away the gains made by duo-core. Perhaps quad-core will come out and offset that apparent loss; that is until Vista 2010 comes out.

Isn't that the way of technology? The software pushes the hardware to go faster, while the hardware tries to stay ahead by enticing the software to catch up to its latest versions. And who is stuck in the middle? The consumer of course, go to keep up with technology, right?

I remember when a friend of mine was the first in the neighborhood to get a P-2 computer with 256k RAM and was remarking, "Wow, you won't believe how fast this baby starts up"! Right, and it's no faster with my dual-core & XP.

So, Vista hit the consumer market today. Who's taking the plunge for their personal machine(s)?

Personally, I'll probably take the plunge. But, I'm a glutton for punishment.

Not me. I go trailing edge on my home machine, mostly.

    Re: Vista anyone?

I think I will wait until I decide to get a new machine before i attempt to take the plunge (that is if I don't go mac) The problems I have heard of and I see with my current work Laptop (lees than 2 years old) by running the vista upgrade app tester that some of my hardware is not compatible with some of the features.

    Re: Vista anyone?

Me neither. My boss has already loaded it and is playing with it.

Just watching the latest "PC & MAC" commercial made me hesitate - the line "requires major internal surgery" (a.k.a. upgrades).

Think I'll wait until the glitches are found (and fixed!?)

    Re: Vista anyone?

I'm tempted but I think a new machine is needed first - not sure the current one could really handle it - on the bright side it gives me a reason to buy a new machine.

I tend to keep my own machine more updated as my company tends to run behind the times a little.
