    First Day of Testing

Seems that my move from developer to tester is gonna be happening soon ( just part-time to start with as I have a lot of legacy code that I'm responsible for )
So although I've done lots of testing, none of it has been where I have the official job title of 'Tester' and I'm looking forward to my first day

What was your first day/week as a tester like ?

Mine consisted of watching monkey behavior video documentaries. My potassium level spiked at an all time high from all the bananas I consumed.

    Re: First Day of Testing

Actually - the first week was on-the-job-training, the first day of a machine-language programming course, and learning to analyze reams of 132-column-width octal data consisting of time-stamps and C2 (command, control) directives to land aircraft automatically. It was in this first week that I established the utmost respect for we "monkeys"!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">For me, it was like discovering that I was now "home".

By the end of my first week, I knew I had found the profession I had been searching for.

    Re: First Day of Testing

Same as Joe...comfortable, confident...more or less so over a few different companies and changing teams/responsibilities.

That was software...when I first got going in QA, it was in manufacturing. A note was by the time clock saying, "Steve C. will be talking with each of you to document your jobs. Please cooperate with him. If you have a problem, see me. Jerry (Co. Pres.)" It was confrontational right off the bat - at one point I was physically pushed into a corner and made to defend or explain what I was "up to" in front of about a half-dozen other people who were hungry for a fight...and that was how I learned later about "executive committment to quality", or the lack of it. Re: First Day of Testing

My first day of testing was a surprise, as i was hired to work at a Semi-Conductor company as a spanner-man for the most part being out of college with the new-found degree in EET.

My first assignment out of training was to go help "install this new thing". They gave me the item to install, the instructions, and two days later I cam back with a list of things that was wrong with it all, then I immediately was moved into a pseudo department to do nothing but install and test new software and hardware.

Found "home" at that point as well.
