2nd Driest continent ?
Australia is suposed to be the second driest continent.
This is an example of our summer storms in action.
Re: 2nd Driest continent ?
I visited Australia for the Leonid meteor shower in November 2001. We left from Sydney, and decided to go inland--three or four hours. We spent the next couple of days trying to drive to the edge of the weather system that was moving in--a blanket of light cloud.
As we drove near the edge of the Outback, it got hotter and drier and more clear. We saw a storm a few miles off, and after a bit we were in it. The hood (bonnet) of the car simply disappeared as the windshield was covered with rain. We pulled over to the side of the road, terrified that the cars just ahead of us and behind us would occupy the same space--there was no question of being able to see anything. It was like being underwater; absolutely the heaviest rain I've ever been in.
And five minutes later, it was sunny again.
