"A nest of worms for folks from every side of the political spectrum" is my humble opinion.
I come down on the side of individual accountability and responsibility. I am responsible and accountable for what I do and how I do it. Folks (employers, whomever..) do to me what I allow them to do. Yes there is the issue of random acts of violence - this specific instance does not go into that arena.
One is very capable of voting with their feet. It is convenient to blame my employer for my dysfunction. Who was dysfucntional first - me or my employer?
If an hourly rate is important, then I should be in a job that reflects that notion. Did these folks get to keep all of the travel perks (miles, points, etc.)? Do they have the lifestyle and notoriety that comes from being road warriors? Were they slaves?
Sorry, I got on a role. Employers have got to pay more than lip service to the non-work life of employees. Employees must accept the trade-off in pay and benefits.
