What Would Your Next Career Be If...

... all companies involved in SW development said "Goodbye to QA and Testing!", forever?

... or if you just decided to hang it up?

I would want to join Peter, Paul, and Mary. (Just kidding Jean)

I think I would like to do sound engineering for studios - and ultimately be involved in the production of movie sound tracks.

Funny you mention that. If I had any actual talent, I think I'd want to be a lead vocalist in a popular band. Not long ago I got to spend a lot of time with a local band, I did their website in return for getting into their shows cover-free. It just looked like a ton of fun!

Since I have no talent (vocal talent, that is) I'd have to give serious thought of getting into what I went to college for - Civil Engineering.

If that didn't work out, I'm thinking the 10% employee discount at Home Depot would almost make up for the pay cut.

I was just asking a friend the very same thing recently. I'm looking into these options:

A "greeter" at WalMart seems like a good job. Then maybe somekind of Administrative Assistant might be okay (did that combined with a Help Desk)for a few years.

I think I'd like to be a teacher.

I might have gone into astronomy but I didn't do well on the physics and math portions.

I'd need to learn quite a bit, but.... I love to cook.

That is what I am doing now (albeit part-time) and I greatly enjoy it. It is very challenging but also rewarding. (Oh, and Jean, astronomy offers pretty low pay and a lot of fighting for observation time. You will also have teo write a few papers to keep yourself viable.)

Speaking to JP's general question, what I have done is simply go back into development. It is a very rewarding, very creative endeavor. Specifically, I have gone back into game development for the time being. I forgot how much I truly enjoyed that kind of thing. (Besides, in your "saying goodbye to QA forever" scenario, at least in development I could still keep some good QA and/or test practices alive, I guess.)

    Hmmm...

    -Pro poker player
-Race car driver (This sounds like a little kid answer. Like "cowboy" or "fireman". But I'm serious. )
-Computer special effects/animation (ILM would be a dream.)
