As far as I know, it's not a continuous celebration, but more a period of sacrifices. It's more a purification (spiritual and physical) period. If I remember correctly, during the Ramadam, pleople are not allowed to eat or to drink until the sun go down.
Somebody who knows more could give an accurate explanation. If I'm wrong please correct me !
... Not even me.
What Daniel says is right. During the month of Ramadhan. Muslims fast between dawn and dusk. During this time we are not supposed to eat, drink, smoke or use any injections. This month is a period of practice. We should feel the hunger and learn to control our senses during this time. We are supposed to pray as long as we can in the night.
The first day of the next month (Shawwaal) is called Eidh-ul-Fithr. On this day, People are supposed to give alms to the poor and go to the prayer grounds to offer Eidh prayer.
