Way back in the day, the requirements were discussed for the company logo (much in the same way the salt shaker is currently being discussed). We went back and forth, talking about the merits of horizontal and vertical. There was even a diagonal at one point. Colors (you should have seen the plaid design!), font options... it was an amazing ride to be on.
We had these tremendously sized graphics to work with and three monitors hooked up to the PC it was being developed on:
QA - Forums - .com
Well, there was a little mishap. See, one of the monitors had an unfortunate accident with a Diet Coke, and well, let me tell you, Diet Coke evaporating inside a monitors circuitry does NOT (I repeat, NOT) smell good. So we got that monitor out of there and put in a new one. It got set down on its side while it got hooked up.
And there it was.
Truly amazing, the .com was vertical. It just... worked.
And I'm sure AJ will back me up on this whole tale. You do believe me. Don't you?
(Wait until you see the new logo: It's gonna have a salt shaker on it!)

The .com vertical resembles an exclamation mark "!" and that is what I was going for Same for all the other logos...
As for BetaSoft's logo, for you testers out there... It's a Cube which represents Box testing, and it has 3 sides (well I know it has 6, but 3 of them are visible)
one side's Black which represents Black-Box testing, another is White, and the last is Gray... Get the picture?
