Out of Curiosity....

You don't have to answer this if you don't want to. I'm just curious as to what the average age of everyone is.

    I'd hate to assume anything.

So I'll be the first to go and say that "Yes" - the 71 in my nickname is for the year I was born. But I won't be 30 until December! I'm going to milk my 20's to the last dying moment!

My guess would be that many of us are in our late 20's and early 30's - and then there's another group in their 40's.

Do think our average age (in the field) affects the way that our field is viewed by others?

Okay, I'll play the game. I'm 41. The people who work for me are late 20s - early thirties.

I'm a few months behind Dig... March 1972. That makes me 29 for the mathematically challenged.

I haven't decided if I'm going to turn 30 next year or not. I may be 29 again.

So, what about the second part? Being that many of us are 20/30 somethings - do you think it affects how our field is viewed? Either positively or negatively?

I'm 26 years old. In every job I've had, I have always been the youngest in the group

How a field is viewed has little to do with the age of the people in the field.
Many developers (and other professionals) are in that age group, also.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Im also 25 yrs old.

I think age is not at all a factor. It only matters what and how u think.

If ur thoughts r young then u r naturally young and energetic.

But I have seen for my age, Im more ambitious than most of my counterparts and friends are.I think it is all a matter of our thoughts !!!

How are we viewed as an age group?

I think age has a little to do with the perception of our field. An effect is there, but it is small. I see it this way. We tend to be younger folks in this field, but software quality assurance is a younger field than other IT fields.

    Re: Out of Curiosity....

    I'm a member of the twice-21-plus group - I'm 48, almost 49.

I find myself the oldest member of the group about as often as not. I do find that I'm one of very few women my age who admit their age in the workplace.

I've only lost one possible job due to my age, and I'll admit it freaked me enough to go back to coloring my hair.
