Pancake Day

Any of my British colleagues (expat or otherwise) doing/done pancakes today, Shrove Tuiesday?

I used my Mum's recipe from a cookbook of 1944 (though I used butter not lard in the frying pan). As usual, the first two were not quite right (and the tossing process was iffy <grin&gt but we enjoyed about 6 or 7 pancakes for lunch today. My wife (who is American) had forgotten how much she liked them since, like my mother, I only go thought the trouble of making them once a year. I told her I suspected she would go on eating them as long as I cooked them!

Oh man, I'm not British, but this is a holiday I could get on board with.

I'm Canadian, so I was British for a little bit. Before I was born though.

Oh yes, did them, ate them, still feel warm inside.

Like all good celebrations, the original meaning is almost totally lost, as per the advert that runs over here:

Plate full of pancakes for breakfeast here yesterday, although I suspect our American friends would say I was talking crepe. I just can't handle crumpet that early in the morning any more

    Re: Pancake Day

Next week is actually Pancake Week, I make them on the weekends when I am in the mood, and my son decides he wants them with "maple sauce".

I keep two mixes at home, buttermilk and bisquick for blueberry pancakes. I like variety.

    Re: Pancake Day

I love to chop up some apples into really tiny chunks and add in a bunch of cinnamon and do apple cinnamon pancakes. They're good.

I don't have to motivation to do it in the morning, though.

We prefer buckwheat. But it's hard to get them south of the Mason-Dixon.
