STAR West 2009 - Any reports
I've seen a couple of blog posts on STAR West 2009, but haven't seen any real mass listing of comments/opinions on sessions yet. Everyone must be over at California Adventure at night.
Re: STAR West 2009 - Any reports
I got back Thurs night and StarWest was well done. One of my fave sessions was called "What would MacGuyver do" presented by Harry Robinson an Software Developer Engineer in Test(Microsoft's new titles "SDET"). Harry basically made the comment that MacGuyver was blowing things up which is not our goal as testers but then went on to make the comparison with Robert E "Ed" Smylie who was the chief engineer that came up with the solution of fitting a round device into a square hole to help sustain life on the Apollo 13 spacecraft. I think anyone of us can relate to that point in the movie when all the pieces were dropped on the table and the group of engineers went to work.
Another fantastic speaker that I personally enjoy is Rob Sabourin. Last year he did a keynote on Testing Lessons from the Simpsons and I don't even watch that show. But this year it was on Cl;assic Fairy Tales like Hansel & Gretl, the Ugly Duckling etc. Great research and presentation!
I got to hang out a couple of nights at the bar with James Bach & Michael Bolton who both offered great challenging games. I actually was able to challenge James on a card game called Art Show. If you ever get an opportunity, ask James if you can learn the Dice Game. Fantastic thinking game but just don't drink too much alcohol. Lesson learned... be sure to eat all day as normal and don't skip meals and try to play the Dice Game on an empty stomach and three drinks. James said I did okay but I think he was being kind. That's it for now, will try to post more info soon.
