It's tucked out of the way, but the best meals I have ever had prepared for me (outside of family) were suprisingly close to home, the McNinch House Restaurant in Charlotte NC.
Chef's choice: Pre Fixe.
The meal here is an event to be shared with your closest friends. Be prepared for a 3-4 hour event of "Wow...that was incredible..." Service is impeccable with the staff noting your preferences, your requests and feedback on food and beverage from one visit to the next.
And then there is someplace just as good but could not be a more a polar opposite place than the McNinch house, Dreamland BBQ #1 in Tuscaloosa AL. Get rid of the jacket and tie, this is a cutoffs and t-shirt place. I am not really a rib guy as I come from the Carolina "chop" zone, but the stuff is amazing. Slab or half slab? Wonder bread or not? Pepsi, Sweettea or Budweiser? No sides: Pure Pig. I buy this sauce in bulk and use it on my own BBQ pork shoulders at home.
1. Restaurant in Paris which I can't remember the name of (not much help I know). I'll have to try find the card from it. Amazing steaks, knife went through like it was gliding through butter. Amazing fries, amazing wine. One of those run by family for the last 50 years type places. The kind of place that Clint Eastwood and Jack Nicholson go to eat and where Juliette Binoche was eating when we were there.
For those of you who enjoy BBQ ribs, the best I've ever had was in a little wooden shack just off I95 in Brunswick Georgia. The Georgia Pig. I was in Brunswick 2 years ago and my Wife was ill on New years eve so I trekked down to the Pig and got a super side of ribs. I could not believe how good they were. I had been there several times over the years, but they have improved through the years.
