Lol, oh man, I really hope that Google doesn't get the OK to move forward with Yahoo. I mean it's only fair, right? This is COMPLETELY anti-trust in sheeps clothing. I would love for Microsoft to come back to the table. Yahoo is suffering because Google is so massive. They need to be able to eat some losses here and there if they want to survive a recession, and since their business model lives and dies with the web, they could be in trouble.
I think that walking away from the table was probably the best move Microsoft could have made. Even if they offer $25 a share right now, that over doubles the going price for Yahoo! stock right now. I think that even if Yahoo! didn't take that deal, Microsoft would be able to easily move into a position where a hostile takeover would be a real possibility.
Unfortunately, Yang messed up. Big time. On the cusp of a recession he made a call that he thought was in the best interests of his shareholders. Unfortunately, I think that there was soo much inflation of Yahoo! stock on the discussion of a Microsoft buyout that when talks broke off, people just unloaded it like dirty laundry, probably finishing ahead of where they entered, but leaving everyone who stayed on the elevator to plunge down towards the ground. So, now, given the opportunity to get out, I think there will be many more major shareholders who will be looking to get off the bus.
9 out of 10 people I prove wrong agree that I'm right. The other person is my wife.
