We are planning to perform the performance testing of client/server and standalone applications.
The application is totally deveoped in VC++, with com components for business processing and 3rd party ActiveX controls for GUI.
Could somebody help how to go about this?
Read the FAQ at the top of this form, it's a great start.
Generally all Load Testing tool act like a proxy between your client and your server application.
You basically load your client application and the Load Testing tool listens in and captures the conversation with your server application. This forms the basis for a script which can then be re-played in order to generate load.
All of the Commercial Off The Shelf tools have a very wide range of protocols which they support, so I doubt a C++ developed app will be a problem.
If you don't already have a tool to work with you probably want to perform a tool evaluation which would be your starting point. From there you can then determine what tool best suits your needs/budget.
Here is quite a good link which has a large number of tools:
If your interested in the methodologies behind developing a good load test, Scott one of the moderators of this group has a good site with a number of step by step papers. See http://www.perftestplus.com
