Solaris hardware - need specs for performance equivalent to Windows Hardware
Most of my hardware knowledge is related to Intel based technology, rather than Solaris/Sparc technology. The question I'm trying to answer for an upcoming project is: what kind of Solaris hardware specs would be equivalent to or close to Windows hardware with these specs:
Compaq ProLiant DL380 G2
2 x 1.3 GHz (P4)
1.3 GB Ram (PC133 ECC)
Ultra 3 SCSI Harddrive
The machines will be used in a 3-tier web-based CRM type application (Web Server, App Server, Database Server).

There is probably no simple answer for this.
Unless you can get hold of some test results for the individual components and also for the complete machine.
I was about to suggest to check out www.tcp.org but as it turn out they have no data for tests run on SUN machines.
Just comparing processor speeds will not do it. For instance some risc processors run low (relatively) speeds but are still very fast because their instruction set is much simpler and most instructions run in very few cycles.
Another factors are 32-bit versus 64-bit, on board bus speeds, data transfer speeds, buffering etc.
Anyway, this probably will not help you getting an immediate answer but hopefully some things to think about.
