If you want to know what user response time will be, you have to simulate the entire user community as exactly as possible.
Instead of trying to summarize here, I'll refer you to my article series that addresses these, and several other, common topics.
In addition, I suggest you search this forum. These topics have been discussed several times, and I think you will find those discussions useful.

Im new to load testing and was wondering if anyone could help me out with some doubts. For generating load, do i have to mimic user activity by using think time within the script, or do i ignore think time and run the test to generate the maximum load on the system??
I am required to test response time at a specified number of Transactions per Second. Do i have to use think time within the script to reach that level? How do i set up my script to achieve the required level of TPS?
Any help would be appreciated..
