Although I know this isn't its intended use, I've been using QARun in order to do screen scraping and data entry by reading from delim files and writing to error handler and result files (automated data entry).
I'm now challenged with a similar request from my new job and before I suggest the same way (because I know it) - I thought I'd see if there are alternative suggestions (cost and effectiveness of equal importance). It has to be able to read from a file and input that data into a mainframe and/or windows application - storing results and creating files with results.
Any info would be great. Thanks
Strange, i used QARun a couple of years back for exactly the same purpose.
If price is consideration I also used to use a Terminal Emunaltion package called 'AttachMate' which has a macro facility allowing 'playback', looped transactions etc.
I'm pretty sure you could read in data from files etc.
This is not obviously the main purpose of the package but a nice 'feature' that comes with it.
If your looking at loading large amounts of data I would look at more commercial options designed for big data loads and transforming data for testing such as File-AID from Compuware (I haven't used it but it sounds like a good tool).
