My company wants me to test the performance of a gateway running on linux.I am given this task for the first time.I have been testing the code all these days.
Now what I want to know is which tool shoul I suggest & if we use the tool what all should I know & where will I get the concepts from.
Please correct me If I am wrong .I know that the automated tool simulates users & generates IP addresses is this right???
Please help me in taking up this task in my org & if anyone has some material on the technical aspects of load testing I would be glad if I can get.
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
It might be helpful to include what is the application that you will be running on the gateway. From what I concur, it seems highly unlikely that web applications will be hosted on this gateway. Since you have mentioned that the tool should simulate users and generate IP address, it seems like some sort of authentication might be required for the users who will be using the services available from the gateway. You might want to consider the following tools:
Network Performance Open Source Toolkit Using Netperf, tcptrace,NIST Net, and SSFNet (Richard Blum) [Wiley Publishing Inc] might be a good reference.
Most of the standard tools that I have come across are focused on performance testing of web sites and usually generate HTTP requests. I would still like to get more details and see if I can be of any help in this regard.
