# Thread: How to interpret response time vs. elapsed time

1. ## How to interpret response time vs. elapsed time

Usually a graphic report shows response time vs. elapsed time after running a load test with msec on y-axis and elapsed time (sec) on the x-axis. So how do we the exact/average server response time? and what's good or bad?

[/ QUOTE ]Does the specific tool you are using provide exact and/or averages?

[/ QUOTE ]It depends upon many things - things too numerous to list here. You could start by going to your customer for pass/fail criteria for each transaction. Are there service level agreements and/or system specifications calling out performance specifications?

3. ## Re: How to interpret response time vs. elapsed tim

No, it doesn't provide exact and averages. First I need to find out the exact response time from the graph. The peak number is usually 100K msec vs. 180 sec (total). Is the following formula correct?
Response Time = 100 / 180 = 0.55 sec

4. ## Re: How to interpret response time vs. elapsed tim

Which tool are you using?

Tsung

6. ## Re: How to interpret response time vs. elapsed tim

I do not know that your formula is correct. 100K msec is 100 seconds. Explain your formula.

I have not heard of this tool. It sounds like a tool light on features. Have you thought about other tools?

7. ## Re: How to interpret response time vs. elapsed tim

Actually just try to figure out how to read from a response time vs. elapsed time graph. What does the data mean?

Here's a sample

9. ## Re: How to interpret response time vs. elapsed tim

It could mean many things. It seems to me that you will need to ignite the organ within your cranium and work through these things. Maybe you could back away from it for a bit and come back with a fresh out-of-the-tunnel view?

10. ## Re: How to interpret response time vs. elapsed tim

from the graph itself, can we tell the server response time?
