Need Suggestion On Performance Testing
I have 1.5 years of experience in manual and automation testing. Now I have started working on performance testing. If go outside of my company for job, can i expect the decent vacancies as i am not that much experienced.
I have heard that companies prefer only experienced persons in performance testing(Especially top MNC's). Is it true? If it is true. Please suggest me the best option to proceed further.
Hope that you will provide me the best answer.
You need to affirm your core foundation skills which are distinct for performance testing versus manual and automated functional testing.
You need training in process and tools. You will need a mentor for a while. if your management has asked you to perform in this role and they have not provided you with all three then they are not concerned with yours or your clients success, just in the ability to bill a body.
If you go into an interview and both you and the interviewer are having a dialog on the same questions both of you downloaded and studied from online sources then you are walking into a failed shop. If you go into an interview and the interviewer spends the majority of the interview on foundation skills for the role and scenarios associated with performance testing and diagnostic problems before you get to any tool questions, then you are on the right path. Expect to be asked to demonstrate your skills on a problem before any offer is extended due to the high level of outright fraud (30%) and skills fraud (another 60%) in this field on resumes.
Note: I interview several people a week for performance testing roles using various tools for several organizations. Be honest about your skills with the interviewer. If you don't know an answer, be forthright - don't chase keywords down a rabbit hole looking for a response on the yes or no fronts from your interviewer. Expect questions with false assumptions. Be prepared with questions as the interview should be bidirectional where the fit is genuine for both of you.

If I had to start from scratch I would go for the following:
- Master at least one load testing tool, i.e. see Open Source Load Testing Tools: Which One Should You Use? article for some free options
- Familiarize myself with basic networking, some popualr protocols, at least HTTP and sniffer tools like Wireshark
- Get understanding of modern applications architecture: 3-tier deployments, clusters, load balancers, database and application servers
- Got myself a test environment i.e. in Amazon, deploy something there, run end-to-end load test and analyze results
- Repeat step 4 unless feel comfortable
Thanks jpulley for the update. Assume that , I have the training on performance testing for 6 months in real time scenarios. After that if I go outside of my company for the job, how would be the job openings for me. PLease suggest.
Thanks you glinius. If I learn all the required things, can I expect the best choices .Please share your suggestions.
