Relation between throughput and the response time
Can anyone tell me the relation between throughput and the response time.
Is throughput is directly or inversely proportional to the response time.?
Re: Relation between throughput and the response time
The question you should ask is; " What is the relationship between %utilization, response time, and throughput". As the %utilization crosses 80%, the response time graph goes from a slightly upward trending line to exponential. Stated another way, after 80% utilization, any small increase in load results in larger increases in response time. The transition point is ofter referred to as the "knee of the response time curve". You want to be well below that point for purposes of capacity planning. See attached .pdf file for a picture (ignore the scale for load and tput).
As response time goes exponential, throughput stops increasing and sometimes can start to decrease vs load.
