I like this forum because several of the vendors are active participants and the moderators probably have 50 years between them doing load and performance testing. The way I see it, anything that serves the growth and evolution of this industry is good for everyone!
On the subject of this post, just wondering how often your customers (I am talking to vendors and consultants here) come to you with clearly defined requirements or is one of the requirements that of defining requirements?
In our case it's fairly uncommon for someone to know in advance what they want to discover through testing, other than the usual sort of "how many users can my server handle" type questions. (My answer to that one is always the same - "depends on what they are doing, how quickly they are doing it, and how big the pages are in the test).
Hi Randy, I've done perf testing as both a consultant and employee (with "internal customers"), and can say that most of the time, the customer needs help defining their requirements. Occasionally, I will get a very tech-savy customer who comes in and says "I want to know x, under the following set of conditions". More often, it is some variant of what you have described.
