Realtime performance monitoring and alerting tool?
I'm a novice with load/performance testing. Just wondering if there are tools out there to monitor (Windows) system performance (CPU, memory, etc.) in real time and alert the tester (via email, SMS, SNMP, etc.) if performance crosses a max threshold, etc.?
Perfmon can be configured to monitor remote and local machines in real time but can it do alert notifications? And it's a pain to configure Perfmon dynamically through the GUI for many counters or many remote machines. So I'd rather not use Perfmon.
PAL from CodePlex.com is a great tool to do performance threshold analysis but too bad it doesn't work in real time with alerting capability.
I might build my own basic tool for such a case if there are no good tools in existance.

Have you looked at Nagios or similar monitoring systems?
