I am try to benchmark a servlet application on both windows and linux platform (redhat) via a load test. based on my test results, i found there is a 10 times difference. the linux web server is slower than the windows web server in terms of processing the request. by the way, i am using apache tomcat 5.5.12. what is strange is that when the application runs on windows platform the cpu of the web server is fully used (avg 99%), while on linux platform, the cpu usage is only about (avg 10%). could someone give me some hints how i could dig into it?
To Alex' point. A good approach to executing such a test is to have active participation from a sysad who can watch what the server is doing, resource utilization, etc. There's clearly something amiss with system configuration. The sysad is the quickest route to finding out what that amiss is.
