Yes - depending upon the protocol used to communicate with server and the ability to record it through the client - OR - write custom code to lift and drop into a compilable script. At the very least, LoadRunner (for example) could do this with the FileSystemObject via VBScript protocol.
Network stats - you may find them important if dealing with large files over a short period of time and/or multiple users trying to access the same files concurrently.

Need to simulate 1000+ users hitting files shared on a server
I've read a ton of information about load test applications and I've come to the conclusion that most are for web apps.
We have a Windows based server application and we'd like to simulate the activity of having 1000+ users opening, closing, updating files stored on a server. Network stats are not important. Is this possible with any of the current load testing tools.
