I am in a new project and I am hearing the term Parametric Testing very often. I am not very clear on what gets done in this cycle. Can somebody help?
Re: Parametric Testing
A parametric test, as its name implies, is a test using the sample statistic to estimate the population parameter. I have mainly heard the term in relation to statistics and within the more QC sampling techniques context in engineering (which has been a good 10 years for me now).
However some interesting links on parametric testing are give below. However I am not sure explicitly how this applies to software testing explicity, I think i can see where and how, or if it would actually be a sperate cycle in the SLDC.
As you say you are hearing it mentioned a lot on your specific project, might be worth asking one of these people what they mean by it and how they feel it is effective within this project, once you have googled the term. I never have an issue with saying I do not know what is ment, I work on the fact that there is at least one other on the project who is unsure.

If you do get a better understanding let me know , as this is but a semi educated guess.
