Well it depends on the company.....say for small companies QA is actually more of testing but for larger companies the QA department takes care of the whole processes and the testing department takes care of the testing...
so which of the above suits your company profile
Anyway in large companies, the QA dept handles the processes as guidelining project specific ready models/templates for business development , defineing metrics collection at various levels of project in SDLC etc and the testing dept is concerned more about testing techniques as models/patterns implemented for testing and actual testing.
Looking at new trend of engaging third party for outsourcing / off the shelve package, the traditional SDLC is sort of simplify. These new element in the SDLC need a different skill/knowledge be acquired by the QA professionals to handle new problem associated with vendor. Having recognise this new element, is there any recommendation like standard industry best practise to equip ourself?
