    Re: Free Load testing tools

    Gret,

Given the investment your company could be making, I would re-visit OpenSTA. I have been using it for almost six months now and I am delighted (and have no association with ANY load tool vendor). In the past I have used LoadRunner and WebLoad.

The 'Results', for OpenSTA, can all be downloaded to Excel and displayed in more apealing ways. The great thing about OpenSTA result analysis is the Open "Collectors" which allow collection of NT (or UNIX) performance measures and then, (using Excel), charting against other variables.

Recently I was asked to investigate a 'memory leak', I was able to collect the 'Private Bytes' of our own application server and then correlate this with 'Open Sessions" (from the log-on url stats), the load ran for 48 hrs and all the results were kept and presented in a "very cool" format to the engineers, using Excel.

    And it's all FREE.

    Regards

    Ian

    Re: Free Load testing tools

    Ian..

I recently downloaded OpenSTA also. From what I see it looks promising. I want to use it as a monitoring tool rather than for generating load. I was confused by their instructions for setting up collectors. I'm not a networking guy and the info about SNMP data collection was brief and lacked any details. Do you have any tips or can you point me towards anything to read about this (I looked pretty deeply at the OpenSTA site and couldnt find much..). FYI the system I want to monitor is Solaris.

    Cory,

I mainly use the NT monitor as we run IIS, but I found the 'online' help of the OpenSTA commander conatins more information than the other documentation also there is a good set of Q and A's at http://www.geocrawler.com/lists/3/SourceForge/6594/0/

    Hi Gretchen,
MErcury's Astra Load test is fine and is avaiable for downlaod. This is a evaluation copy and can be used for 7 days.
You can use the help file available to learn the tool. Its quite good and easy to start with.

    Bye
