For what it is worth I have been working with (or trying to work with) ALT for several weeks and have been having problems with generating a load. It seems if I set it up to do more then 50 Vusers on one box that the CPU maxes out. So my results are skued by the fact that the test machine is being over worked. I have contacted MI about this but they have not responded yet. Unless they come up with a really good answer I would not recamend this product.
Thanks for the thought but I already have it set to 700 to 1500 Mb of VM. How much VM does this thing need to do it's job. Can you think of anything else I might be doing wrong? I would like to be able to use the product but so far I can not trust the results.
I upped the VM to 2.0 to 4.0 GB and it didn't make any differance. I am fairly new to this, so I keep wondering if I am doing something wrong. On the other hand I have tried the same type of test against several different servers (IIS & Apache) with the same results. The minute I go over 40 to 50 Vusers my responce times go way up and my Std Dev goes way up. I am running ALT and the web server on 500 + MgHz machine with 256 or better RAM. I am not on a dedicated network (that is coming) but I do not think network bandwidth is an issue, the highest throughtput I get is 217 Kb/s and I am on a 100Mb network. Do you have any idea what might be wrong?
My company is also looking at using the Astra series (Quick, Load and site manager). Personnally, for the cost, I feel this is a great application for a startup WebApp. The downside to Load is that if you buy the cheap license, you are limited to 50 VUsers per machine (remember though - you are not limited to how many machines you load it onto!!).
I would be interested in hearing what you have decided on using (since your original post was a few months ago).
